Frequently Asked Questions
-
Your first session will be an hour and half long (follow ups are an hour).
We’ll review your intake form and have an in-depth conversation about what you’d like to address. Then I’ll read your pulses, look at your tongue, and craft a personalized treatment for you including acupuncture and/or bodywork.
-
Please wear loose, comfortable clothing (but no worries if you’re coming straight from work!) and avoid wearing strong scents if possible.
It’s also helpful to have eaten earlier in the day and to be properly hydrated.
-
Hair thin, flexible, sterile needles are placed at different acupuncture points along your body. An ancient Chinese saying goes, “where there is no free flow, there is pain; where there is free flow, there is no pain.”
Acupuncture helps active your body’s self-healing capabilities, restoring the proper flow of qi and blood throughout your body and bringing you relief.
-
Typically not. At most, you will feel a brief sensation which could be tingling, aching, warmth, etc. Often you won’t feel anything at all!
-
It depends on the person and what you’re looking to resolve. Generally, the longer a condition has been present, the more treatments it will take to resolve it.
Typically I recommend coming in once a week for at least the first eight weeks and then spreading out treatments as you notice more improvement.
Each treatment builds upon the last, which is why it’s important to come regularly, especially just after beginning treatment.
I work with many people going through life transitions and experiencing spiritual and mental health difficulties. In these cases I’ll offer continual support over a longer period of time.
-
Yes! Acupuncture and bodywork are quite safe and complement other modalities like chiropractic, massage and talk therapy nicely.
When working with herbal medicine, I’ll get a list of medications you’re taking to make sure they’re fully compatible.
-
As an out of network provider, I can provide you with coded superbills to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.
Specifics depend on your company and coverage.

Pay from the Heart *
In an effort to be transparent about resources and to make care more affordable, I use a community centered sliding scale model called Pay from the Heart. These are challenging times, and this model was born from a desire to offer high quality care that meets the needs of as many people as possible. After our first session ($185), you’ll choose a fee that feels right for you, taking into account your financial resources and the value you’ll receive from our treatments.
In contrast to many other practices, I choose to spend a full hour with each patient, utilizing a range of services, including acupuncture, bodywork, Chinese herbs and coaching to meet your unique needs. If you choose to pay at a higher rate, you help make it possible for someone else to receive care at a lower rate – we’re in this together!
Before selecting your rate, I encourage you to pause, reflect and choose an amount that resonates with you, whether it’s the “Grateful You’re Here” rate or the “Community Care” rate or any rate in-between. This is a structure that most of us are not used to, so take your time; I trust that you’ll listen to your heart and make the best choice for you.
Sustainable Rate ($125): This level allows me to make a living and grow my practice, ensuring that I can meet your needs while also supporting those who depend on me. If this rate is possible for you, I’d encourage you to choose it.
Grateful You’re Here Rate ($90): This rate covers the essential costs of keeping my practice open, but it doesn’t allow for expansion. If this is the rate that fits your needs, welcome.
Community Care Rate ($150): This rate enables me to expand my practice and offerings while supporting the community with events like free auricular acupuncture and educational offerings. If you’re able to pay this rate, you help provide care for those who may not be able to meet the sustainable rate.
Once you choose your rate, this will be your rate moving forward. However, once every six months you’ll have the opportunity to revise it starting on January 1st and July 1st of each year. Regardless of what you choose, if you have out of network acupuncture benefits through your insurance provider, I’ll provide you with a coded superbill you can submit for reimbursement.
*I’d like to acknowledge Mark Silver, M.Div., the founder of Heart of Business, Inc. for creating this heart-centered pricing model. I’d also like to credit Leah Turner, JD, M.Ac., L.Ac., founder of Body + Beyond Wellness for inspiring its implementation.
